Pre-flight briefing

A Pre-flight Briefing allows the pilot to gather meteorological and aeronautical information necessary for the conduct of a safe and efficient flight.

Notam Summary

skeyes publishes NOTAM for the Brussels Flight Information Region (FIR) and SNOWTAM for Belgian international airports.
A list of valid NOTAM for Belgium and Luxembourg is available in real time on AIM-Meteo Briefing.

Daily warnings

The ‘Daily Warnings' provide the airspace user with a visual presentation of all special activities that take place in the Brussels FIR and which are notified by NOTAM.

The Daily Warnings are available via

  • A textual presentation (PDF)
  • A visual presentation (chart in a PDF file)
  • A visual presentation on an interactive map

Daily warnings are real-time information providing a list valid only at the time of retrieval by the user.

Obstacles

Obstacles

The list of obstacles for Belgium (as known to skeyes AIM and as listed in AIP Belgium and G.D. Luxembourg ENR 5.4.) is displayed in an interactive chart.Obstacles (antenna, building, cooling tower, crane, natural highpoint, transmission line, windmill, ...) are represented by different icons on a back-ground map (an 'OpenstreetMap' that precisely locates points of interest like roads, towns, ...).
By clicking on an obstacle, its name/type/elevation/coordinates are displayed.

PIB

PIBs are available on AIM-Meteo Briefing and can be requested in the following ways.

1) Map selection

Every spot on the map of the Brussels FIR graphically represents a Belgian or a foreign airport near the Belgian border.
Clicking on such an airport spot provides an up-to-date bulletin, containing NOTAM and OPMET messages. In winter also SNOWTAM (for main airports only) are included in the report.

2) Aerodrome and FIR

An ‘Aerodrome and FIR Bulletin' provides NOTAM, SNOWTAM and OPMET information for all the FIRs and airports entered in the request.
It is possible to directly consult METEO charts (significant weather chart and upper wind and temperature chart).
Requesting this type of bulletin in the initial flight preparation phase is recommended, in order to obtain advance information about the airport status and the availability of airspace and/or routes.

3) Narrow Route

A ‘Narrow Route Bulletin' comprises NOTAM, SNOWTAM and OPMET information strictly tailored to the needs of the pilot. This bulletin only contains NOTAM that relate to the intended flight route.
Entering the ‘callsign' and the aerodrome of departure and destination of a valid flight plan will automatically produce a Narrow Route Bulletin for this flight.
If no flight plan has been filed, it is possible to obtain the same type of bulletin by entering the complete flight route details, together with the aerodrome of departure, arrival and the alternate aerodromes.
It is possible to directly consult METEO charts (significant weather chart and upper wind and temperature chart).

Sunrise/Sunset

In order to assist mainly the "General Aviation", a table containing the times of Sunrise (SR) and Sunset (SS) is made available on AIM-Meteo Briefing.
All times are given in UTC and relate to the geographical position of Uccle.

ATIS/VOLMET

ATIS stands for Automatic Terminal Information Service of an airport. The continuous message service provides safety-critical information for pilots preparing their landing on, or departure from that airport. An ATIS message consists of a standardized number of data about the local status and (meteorological) conditions on and around an airport. Three data sources are involved:

  • The Meteo service provides real-time meteorological data on a 30 minutes refresh base, or faster if local significant weather changes occur. These data do not include gusts;
  • The airport operator provides operational data about status and availability of runways and taxiways;
  • The Tower ATC Supervisor provides his/her decided operational data concerning current approach, landing and take-off configuration in use at the airport. Each update from an input source results in a new ATIS message release and an increment of the integrated ATIS-designator.

VOLMET is also called "en-route ATIS" and provides pilots in cruise flight with information of the meteorological conditions at the surrounding main airports of their destination. The purpose is to allow the pilot to decide in time on deviating the aircraft to an adjacent airport in case of bad weather conditions at the destinating airport. The message service is continuously refreshed every 30 minutes and carries a common or individual time stamp.

Communication channels
  • For operational (and non-commercial) use, distribution is done via radio broadcasting: regionally via continuous VHF voice transmission and globally complemented by text displaying in the cockpit via data on request (D-ATIS over ACARS and VDLmode2).
  • For non-operational (and non-commercial use), ATIS is available via the following channels: (password restricted and for aeronautical users only)
